Mother’s Day
每年五月的第二个星期日是母亲节。
Měi nián wǔ yuè de dì èr gè xīngqī rì shì Mǔqīn Jié.
Mother’s Day falls on the second Sunday of May each year.
这是一个感谢妈妈的节日。
Zhè shì yī gè gǎnxiè māma de jiérì.
It is a day to show gratitude to mothers.
这个节日是从西方传来的，现在中国也有越来越多的人过这个节。
Zhè ge jiérì shì cóng xīfāng chuánlái de, xiànzài Zhōngguó yě yǒu yuè lái yuè duō de rén guò zhè ge jié.
This holiday is originally from the West, and now more and more people in China celebrate it.
在母亲节这一天，孩子们会用自己的方式表达对妈妈的爱。
Zài Mǔqīn Jié zhè yī tiān, háizimen huì yòng zìjǐ de fāngshì biǎodá duì māma de ài.
On Mother’s Day, children express their love for their mothers in their own ways.
小朋友会给妈妈画一张画，或者做一张漂亮的卡片，写上“妈妈，我爱你”“谢谢妈妈”这样的话。
Xiǎopéngyou huì gěi māma huà yī zhāng huà, huòzhě zuò yī zhāng piàoliang de kǎpiàn, xiě shàng “Māma, wǒ ài nǐ” “Xièxiè māma” zhèyàng de huà.
Young children might draw a picture for their mom or make a beautiful card, writing words like “Mom, I love you” and “Thank you, Mom.”
长大以后的孩子，会给妈妈准备礼物。
Zhǎngdà yǐhòu de háizi, huì gěi māma zhǔnbèi lǐwù.
Older children will prepare gifts for their mothers.
比如，给妈妈送花、送衣服，或者妈妈喜欢吃的东西。
Bǐrú, gěi māma sòng huā, sòng yīfu, huòzhě māma xǐhuan chī de dōngxi.
For example, they might give her flowers, clothes, or her favorite foods.
除了送礼物，很多人会帮妈妈做家务，让妈妈好好休息一天。
Chúle sòng lǐwù, hěnduō rén huì bāng māma zuò jiāwù, ràng māma hǎohao xiūxi yī tiān.
Besides giving gifts, many people help with household chores so that their mothers can have a day of rest.
如果不能回家，孩子们会给妈妈打电话或者打视频电话，跟妈妈说一声“母亲节快乐”。
Rúguǒ bù néng huí jiā, háizimen huì gěi māma dǎ diànhuà huòzhě dǎ shìpín diànhuà, gēn māma shuō yī shēng “Mǔqīn Jié kuàilè.”
If they can’t go home, children will call or video chat with their mother to say “Happy Mother’s Day.”
还有人会在网上订花或者礼物，直接送到妈妈手里。
Hái yǒu rén huì zài wǎngshàng dìng huā huòzhě lǐwù, zhíjiē sòng dào māma shǒu lǐ.
Some people will order flowers or gifts online and send directly to their mothers.
在中国，也有人用发红包的方式表达心意。
Zài Zhōngguó, yě yǒu rén yòng fā hóngbāo de fāngshì biǎodá xīnyì.
In China, some people express their feelings by sending a red pocket.
给妈妈发一个微信红包，红包里装着代表爱意的数字，比如520元。因为在中文里520听起来像“我爱你”。
Gěi māma fā yī gè Wēixìn hóngbāo, hóngbāo lǐ zhuāng zhe dàibiǎo àiyì de shùzì, bǐrú wǔbǎi èrshí yuán. Yīnwèi zài Zhōngwén lǐ wǔbǎi èrshí tīng qǐlai xiàng “wǒ ài nǐ.”
Send a WeChat red pocket to mom, with an amount that symbolizes love, such as 520 yuan. Because in Chinese, 520 sounds like “I love you.”
其实，妈妈最开心的不是收到多贵的礼物，而是孩子记得她、关心她。
Qíshí, māma zuì kāixīn de bùshì shōudào duō guì de lǐwù, érshì háizi jìde tā, guānxīn tā.
In fact, what makes a mother happy is not receiving expensive gifts, but knowing that her children remember and care about her.
